Hi.

Leaps + Adventures

Leaps + Adventures

The last five months have been full of leaps and adventures. The main focus of my energy has been starting my first job as a nurse; adjusting to a new sleep sched {hello night shift!}, learning the ins and outs of hospital logistics + {most importantly} being a competent nurse, all while putting a smile on my face and providing the best patient care possible. All of these transitions have been exciting and challenging and tested my willpower + motivation. They forced me to identify what I want in life and what aspects mean the most to me. I realized very quickly I love my job and felt validation that I am in the right profession. Additionally, I recognized I cannot just work, eat, sleep & repeat for three days in a row. I felt lonely, disconnected, and sad; I needed more balance on my workdays. Exercise has always been part of my life, but the days I work they are an important component - making the time, no matter how long, to get in a workout helps me feel awake, energized, and gives me the social interaction I am missing because of my opposite schedule. Even more, getting my food schedule figured out helped me feel more like myself too. Certain things don’t sound appetizing at 2AM (no thank you, left-over chicken), so I’ve listened to my body and packed snacks that are crunchy, nutritious, and small so I can snack when I have a quick minute. Three twelve-hour shifts per week is not enough for me to justify changing my whole schedule, so I just make it work and am learning to be okay with that!

In addition to the excitement of starting my career, I moved in with my guy, and we got a puppy! We all have wounds from our past that subconsciously cause us to hesitate before moving forward. While this is good and means we have learned from our past, I knew I didn’t want the heartache of previous experiences to dictate how I will live now. I want to remember, question, and move forward with eyes open, absolutely, but I refuse to let my past keep me from growing. Taking the leap and moving out was one of the best parts of 2018. I am lucky and grateful that my partner is equally willing to make room for me and create a life together, which is all the validation I needed to know I made the right decision. Not to mention the pure joy of our sweet lil pup! Training and teaching is definitely challenging at times, but her personality, sweet face, and sass bring us so much laughter and love that those harder times will be funny memories down the road.

Even with all these transitions, I have been able to maintain my client base as a trainer. I am grateful to my clients for working with my crazy schedule; it shows me they appreciate the balance I can bring to their lives, but also makes me happy that I am able to continue to share my passion for health and wellness with people that I care about.

As I have finally found a groove with my work + life balance, I am excited to get back to sharing ways to maintain overall wellness and optimize our health!
