Hi.

Welcome to Healthy and Whole where you can find tips and information supporting the benefits of a balanced life.

Educated Wellness

Educated Wellness

Wellness. It holds a different meaning for everyone, and it has definitely become a trendy topic.

Working in health care gives me a unique perspective to what wellness means. I see the benefits of psychological health, physiological health, and social health. Work does not always provide the opportunity to educate, nor are people always willing to hear it. Which is why this platform provides me with a space to share new research or thoughtful ideas. Unfortunately, what I’ve noticed is how saturated the media is with concepts of wellness. Much of it, thankfully, is based off of current research. However, often the media is full of ideas or trends not backed by much scientific data that then takes off because enough people talk about it. Is the Keto diet really the next best thing? How much sitting is too much? Turmeric is the trick for inflammation. Let’s be gluten free. You should meditate. All great concepts, but who is asking why, or what will these changes do for me and my body?

With easy access to information, it isn’t hard to be bombarded with health related news. Instead of blindly following what we read, it is up to each of us to become educated and determine what information is relevant, and more importantly, what information is relevant for us. Wellness is specific to an individual; what works for one person may not work for another. With the new year upon us, it is especially critical to filter what we read about wellness. Question the source, question the relevance. Most importantly, stay in tune with our bodies to create the healthiest lifestyle for ourselves!

My next post will explore one of the latest health trends, CBD. Keep an eye out!
